It's been a while since my last update, but today is huge for my NY Giants. They're currently 6-6 and one game back in the division. Dallas is leading with a 7-5 record, so if the Giants win today, they'll be in the lead of the NFC East and one step closer to the playoffs. Dallas isn't going to roll over however, and this should be something of a shootout.
On the GIANTS:
The Giants calling cards in the past have been a ferocious pass rush and a strong rushing attack that would help set up the play action pass for Eli Manning. This year, the pass rush is still somewhat present, with Jason Pierre Paul leading the way with 10.5, tied for 5th in the league with rookie sensation, Von Miller. The running game has been terrible ever since Ahmad Bradshaw's injury several weeks ago. His return last week seemed to spark the running game, and even though Bradshaw really didn't do much, going for 38 yards on 11 carries. Brandon Jacobs seemed to really benefit from his presence though, getting 60 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries in a reserve role.
Still, if the Giants want to win, it is likely that they'll have to continue riding the arm of Eli Manning. He has been like a surgeon this season with the way that he is dissecting defenses. Against a secondary that is as average as Dallas, I expect Manning to continue to deliver the ball to Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and the rest of his receivers without much trouble.
COWBOYS:
The Cowboys may have gotten the steal of the draft with DeMarco Murray in the second round of last April's draft. Since taking over the starting job from Felix Jones, he has looked completely unstoppable and has served as an excellent complement to the dynamic passing game conducted by Tony Romo. Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and Laurent Robinson are all dangerous weapons, and the Giants terrible secondary will definitely have a tough time containing these 3. They'll have an even tougher time if the often injured but highly skilled Miles Austin can make his way onto the field for tonight game. Tony Romo has had trouble in the past against the Giants pass rush. Last year it actually broke his collarbone and took him out for half the season.
I expect the Giants to win in a close one, 27-24

Big Day of Football Today
So there are two BIG games for NY teams this week. Here are my picks and why:
Jets @ Bills (1 PM)
The Jets finally seem to have found some sort of rhythm after looking fairly anemic for the first few weeks. Shonn Greene has had 100 yard rushing games for the last few weeks, and Mark Sanchez has stopped turning it over as much. This matchup should be scary for him though, as the Bills intercept the ball more than any other team this year. The Jets have the great Santonio Holmes, who I expect to have a good game, and Plaxico Burress, the huge redzone target. I'd be surprised if he isn't heavily involved today.
The Buffalo Bills have had almost unstoppable offense this year, and while the Jets have great D, I think that the weapons of the Bills are just going to be too much. Stevie Johnson will probably be stranded on Revis Island, and I get that, but the 6'5" David Nelson should be tough to handle for Antonio Cromartie, whose had trouble with the similarly sized Brandon Marshall in the past (A couple years ago when Marshall was with the Broncos and Cromartie was with the Chargers, Marshall had something like 16 catches against him. That's REALLY good.). Scott Chandler is a TD machine, and I really cant say enough about Fred Jackson. The previously undrafted running back has just been a monster this year. He can catch out of the backfield too which should really help against the aggressive Jets D.
I'm picking the Bills in a close matchup 24-20.
Giants @ Patriots
This rematch of the superbowl from a few years ago could really go either way.The Patriots offense has really fallen off in the last several games, and it won't be easy to get going against the ferocious Giants D. Tom Brady, as good as he is, has the mobility of a statue, and the pass-rushing tandem of Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul and Osi Umenyiora should give him fits today. If they can't get to Brady though, he might be able to pick apart the suspect Giants secondary.
Theres also the issue of David Baas, Ahmad Bradshaw and Hakeem Nicks and their injuries. As of my writing this, all of those players will be inactive today. This could be a huge blow to the Giants offense, missing their starting center, running back and number 1 receiver. It might not be a death sentence though, with the strong Brandon Jacobs getting the nod at running back. Jacobs used to be the starter, and he recently expressed the hunger he has to prove his doubters wrong.
My pick? Giants over Patriots 28-21
(Full disclosure: I'm both Giants fan and a Jets hater, so feel free to take these with a grain of salt.)

This weekend is going to be great
If anyone reading this lives in the hipster-filled areas of Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill or Fort Greene, I highly suggest hitting up a few events hosted by Brooklyn Flea this weekend. There are two events that I'm looking forward to on Saturday. The first is simply called Brooklyn Flea and is being held every Saturday through November 20th in Fort Greene in the yard of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. It features some great food booths set up by local restaurants including Dough (one of my favorites), a doughnut place based in Bed-Stuy. I stopped in last week and wasn't able to pick anything up (BRING CASH-very few booths take cards) but this weekend I'm looking forward to picking up these cast iron hooks to put up in my new room, which I saw for $8 apiece.
For the foodies out there, is another event on Saturday, the cleverly titled Smorgasburg, on the Williamsburg waterfront. It features over 100 vendors (also including Dough) and most of the dishes are smaller portions so that you can sample a lot. I haven't personally been to Smorgasburg yet, but if any of you stop by this weekend, I may just see you there. You can find out more about these events and others hosted by Brooklyn Flea at their website
Sunday features another two events that I don't really want to have to decide between. They also couldn't be much farther on the spectrum. Sunday is the final day of New York Comic Con (or NYCC for short) and is going to feature a number of panels that really appeal to the nerd in me. Fred Armisen and David Cross, two hilarious comedians will be there for a panel on their respective shows currently airing on IFC, Portlandia and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret. Tickets are on sale here.
The other event on Sunday is the NFL matchup between my beloved NY Giants and my roommate's favorite Buffalo Bills. This is a matchup that only occurs once every 4 years, and is the less publicized NY state rivalries. The game is especially important this year, as the Giants are clearly capable of winning the NFC East after the collapse of the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Buffalo Bills look poised to return to the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
Needless, to say, I'm pretty excited for this weekend.
